After I became the foremost world’s expert on me, I became determined to only listen to myself when self-creating my life. The predominant response from those around me was that they didn’t believe I had it in me to make the sacrifices necessary to “be successful”. They were correct; I wasn’t willing to sacrifice myself and turn my life upside down. Future wealth was not a motivating factor because I needed only to expand my life. I was naive and inexperienced but at least I didn’t have a plan. I had developed myself to the point of knowing exactly what I needed and following the directions of self-help gurus was an opposite direction. I succeeded by simply letting myself loose as an expert on myself.
Getting to know me demonstrates it worked out very well. Contrary to the opinion of the experts and almost everybody else, my “looseness” provided a balanced, independent approach free from the requirement of sacrificing years of quality life, relationships and health.
I now refer to this as Balanced Effort Living (BEL) and it is a cornerstone for my Possibilities Coaching. My self-creating life and most of the lives I have influenced prove that it is possible to maintain Balanced Effort Living while letting the love of your Self-Creating Life contribute to well-being and happiness. I am aware how many excuses can be made for temporarily ruining a life while hoping to make it better and I’m not trying to rain on their parade, I simply want to expose people to self-creating their life as an option to consider.
What about becoming wealthy? Perhaps the first thing to consider is whose definition of wealth should we use. A narrow definition of wealth sometimes excuses massive stress, poor health, senior dementia, poor parenting, and good marriages gone bad.
My definition of wealth does not include a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. However, financial ease is part of my BEL approach. I do not offer financial guidance but I set a good example, offer solutions, and change lives with a greater view of life that includes keeping ourselves in harmony with our body, mind and spirit while attaining all that we need. In reading the 13 examples of individuals in my book who have self-created their lives, you will learn that all have understood the need for Balanced Effort Living while Self-Creating their lives. Safety and security are ensured when we remain aware of the benefits of BEL.
If you are thinking about the good part of your life to come, when will you actually get around to it and how healthy will you be when you finally take the opportunity? Trust me, I live in Europe and see tourists every day struggling with their limitations while they attempt to tick off their bucket list in time (before they are dead).
Some people say, “I want to do what I love and will do anything to get there”. Many believe this will help them find meaning in their life. However, I’m trying very hard to help this group at least consider that the price of a meaningful life that rationalizes or ignores imbalance is high. I also passionately suggest they clearly determine what has meaning before they set out to be meaningful.
